The Story of Cat's Eye

Cat's eye is the chatoyant form of chrysoberyl, a hard and durable species at 8.5 on the Mohs scale, second only to sapphire and diamond among the gemstones commonly worn. Its defining feature is a single bright band of light that glides across the surface like the slit of a cat's eye, an effect created by fine parallel inclusions within the gemstone.
