The Story of Hessonite

Hessonite is a variety of grossular garnet, coloured in warm tones of honey and cola by traces of iron and manganese, and measuring between 7 and 7.5 on the Mohs scale. Its most distinctive feature is a swirling internal pattern known to gemologists as the treacle or heat-wave effect, a natural characteristic that helps confirm a genuine gemstone.
